EWP Skills Review

Australia needs 1.2 million new homes. Engineered wood products can help. Can your expertise help build the workforce needed to deliver them?

Demand for engineered wood products (EWPs) is growing as Australia works towards delivering 1.2 million new homes under the National Housing Accord.

Rising imports of products such as cross-laminated timber (CLT), glue laminated timber (Glulam) and laminated veneer lumber (LVL) highlight both strong market demand and an opportunity to strengthen Australia’s sovereign manufacturing capability.

Realising that opportunity will require more than manufacturing capacity. It will require a skilled, future-ready workforce.

To help industry prepare for future growth, ForestWorks is undertaking the Engineered Wood Products Skills Review, in partnership with Skills Insight. The review will examine workforce skills, technological change and training needs across the EWP sector, helping identify the capabilities, training pathways and workforce development priorities needed to support the manufacture of CLT, Glulam, LVL and other engineered timber products into the future.

ForestWorks is now seeking nominations for the Project Working Group (PWG) to provide industry advice, insights and feedback throughout the review.

Participation in the PWG provides an opportunity to help identify workforce challenges, emerging skills needs and training priorities, ensuring the review reflects both current industry realities and future workforce requirements.

Expressions of interest are encouraged from employers, manufacturers, workers, industry associations, training providers, unions, government representatives and others with relevant industry expertise.

Industry knowledge and experience are critical to ensuring future skills and training solutions reflect the needs of Australia’s engineered wood products sector.
