A Message From Mike

ForestWorks would like to acknowledge and pay tribute to the resilience, dedication and determination of the workers affected by the closure of Victoria’s native hardwood forestry industry and the cessation of sustainable native timber harvesting and production.

The impact of this decision was significant, affecting thousands of people, including workers, their families and regional communities. Yet through their commitment, adaptability and willingness to embrace change, more than 95 per cent of workers made redundant as a result of the industry closure have successfully transitioned to new employment opportunities.

While not all have found roles directly comparable to those they previously held, many have undertaken retraining, developed new skills and embraced new career opportunities. Importantly, the vast majority have remained in their regional communities, continuing to contribute to the economic and social fabric of the places they call home.

Given that comparable workforce transition programs often achieve re-employment outcomes of only 40% to 50%, this represents an extraordinary achievement and stands as a testament to the character, resilience and determination of the workers involved.

The contribution of the ForestWorks Worker Support Team cannot be overstated. Their professionalism, dedication and unwavering commitment to supporting workers through an incredibly challenging period were instrumental in achieving these outstanding outcomes.

To every worker who faced uncertainty with courage, and to every member of the Worker Support Team who provided guidance, encouragement and practical support along the way, we offer our sincere thanks and appreciation.

Your efforts have made a lasting difference. We wish you every success in the future and in the next chapter of your journey.
